On May 16th, Hollywood will come together to celebrate GAIA Global Health and fill the funding gap caused by the dismantling of USAID. For 25 years, GAIA has strengthened healthcare access in rural African communities. Since the iconic actress and humanitarian Elizabeth Taylor provided funding to launch GAIA’s signature mobile-clinic program to combat HIV/AIDS in Malawi, the results have been remarkable. The number of people dying of AIDS each year has fallen by nearly 75% and malaria deaths in children have been cut in half.

To help us maintain and grow these life-saving programs, we hope you will consider joining us as a sponsor at GAIA’s Spring Gala in Los Angeles, which will honor playwright, screenwriter and long-time GAIA supporter Winnie Holzman. Winnie was first introduced to GAIA twenty years ago through her association with Broadway Cares. When she heard GAIA founder Bill Rankin describe the work GAIA was doing to combat HIV/AIDS in poor, rural villages in Malawi, Winnie began supporting and raising awareness. She has quietly donated nearly a million dollars to support GAIA’s mobile health clinics, as well as scholarship opportunities for nursing students in Africa.
Today, as GAIA Global Health marks a quarter century of remarkable progress, Malawi is on the brink of a historic end to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. But the loss of USAID grants, which accounted for a third of GAIA’s operating budget, has put this progress in jeopardy.
Please help us celebrate Winnie and her great philanthropic heart. Your attendance and donation will help us create a more sustainable, equitable world, where a person’s health is not limited by where they live.
