Last Saturday, we had the honor of celebrating playwright/screenwriter and longtime GAIA supporter Winnie Holzman for her extraordinary philanthropic contributions to our work in Malawi.
Over the past twenty years, Winnie has been a champion of GAIA’s mission, raising awareness of GAIA’s work and, through extraordinary personal generosity, quietly contributing nearly one million dollars to expand GAIA’s mobile health clinics and create educational opportunities for nursing students across Africa. Her contributions to GAIA have allowed our team in Malawi to operate one of our mobile health clinics in Phalombe District -- one of Malawi’s poorest, most remote, with one of the highest rates of HIV infection – for nine years. This has provided five villages and their surrounding communities in remote locations with weekly access to healthcare for nearly a decade.
“Some decisions are complicated. My decision to lend support to GAIA wasn't like that. I heard about GAIA, and I just felt this strong, intuitive feeling that I wanted to help,” ~ Winnie Holzman
A special thank you to our event sponsors and to Bob and Janet Daily for graciously hosting us in their home.
